Moama Microgrid

A REMOTE SOLUTION FOR CLUBHOUSE

Moama Bowling Club (MBC) sits within the Murray Shire Council local government area and is linked to the Essential Energy distribution network. It is located 200Km from Melbourne and is regarded as one of Australia’s premier clubs, promoting several activities for the regional tourist and local community in the Echuca Moama region.

THE GOAL

In 2018, MBC commissioned a study by Vellocet Clean Energy to investigate opportunities for developing an on-site clean energy solutions to supply a significant proportion of its peak electricity usage, reduce its electricity costs, and provide it with standby power to meet increasing instances of network outage.

VCE engaged Balance Group under an Early Contractor Involvement contract to undertake site inspections and provide an initial design and engineering assessment for the Feasibility Study.

The Feasibility Study recommended the installation of a “behind-the-meter” microgrid, incorporating on-site solar PV systems (on-roof and carpark installations), battery energy storage systems (BESS) and existing standby diesel generation systems (DGS) managed by a central microgrid controlling architecture.
